Species: Trichocereus pachanoi (Trichocereus macrogonus var pachanoi; Echinopsis pachanoi)
Traits: New growth is almost spineless with very short spines. Older growth has much longer spines. Branches grown in the shadier locations can be quite blue. Some branches develop variegation, but generally in small patches, and not consistently on new growth (similar to “Aroha“).
Origin & History: “Ballymena” was from a cactus removal in Belfast, Christchurch, New Zealand. It was growing from a branch that had been laid down beside the driveway.
